Collection of spent oil from engines and industrial equipment, laden with contaminants such as metals, chlorine, water, dust, and oxidation products, is far from its original state. However, the basic hydrocarbon structure remains intact, providing a foundation for restoration.
In the pre-treatment phase licensed by our partner Itelyum, the used oil undergoes a meticulous process to remove water and light hydrocarbons. This is achieved through an atmospheric flash distillation column. The dehydrated oil is then heated and distilled in a vacuum deasphalting column (TDA). Here, the residue product settles at the bottom, while three side cuts of different viscosities and an intermediate gas oil (VGO) are extracted and stored for the next phase.
The heart of the Revivoil™ licensed by Axens lies in the hydro finishing unit. The stored lube oil cuts (SLF, LLF, and HLF) and VGO cut from the TDA unit are processed batch-wise. This phase involves two critical catalytic sections:

Demetalization: Removes impurities such as metals and chlorines.

Hydrofinishing: Restores the highest quality base oil by hydrotreating and hydrofinishing the lube oil.
For those seeking to recover Bright Stock (BS) or heavy lubricants, the optional Propane De-Asphalting (PDA) unit comes into play. The residue from the TDA is mixed with propane in an extractor under specific conditions, separating BS and asphalt cuts. This step further enhances the versatility and value of Revivoil™.
The journey's final phase sees the re-refined oil's transformation into premium quality base oil. The products obtained at the outlet of the HDF process are equivalent to a virgin lube oil base. By optimizing the HDF operating conditions, the qualities of re-refined lubricants can be adjusted from Group 1 to 3. Additionally, ULSD Euro 5 can be produced by processing the VGO cut.
